What a permission request means
A permission lets an app access a device feature or category of data. The request itself does not show whether the app is genuine or safe. Verify the publisher first, read its privacy notice and consider whether the requested access is proportionate to the feature you want.
An app might request notifications to send account alerts, but access to contacts or accessibility controls is more sensitive and should have a specific, understandable reason. Permissions can often be denied or changed later in device settings. If the app will not function without access you consider unnecessary, use an official browser alternative or contact the verified publisher.
A permission review table
| Permission type | Question to ask | Safer response |
|---|---|---|
| Notifications | Do I want account or service alerts? | Allow only if useful; review lock-screen previews |
| Location | Is precise location essential to this feature? | Deny if the purpose is not clear |
| Contacts / SMS | Why does the app need personal messages or address book? | Pause and verify before granting |
| Accessibility / device admin | What control does the app require? | Do not grant casually; check official guidance |
If credentials or device access may be exposed
Stop using the app, revoke permissions you do not recognise, and contact the provider from its official website or a verified app-store listing. Change any exposed password from a trusted device. If a payment account may be affected, contact the wallet or bank promptly using a published channel.
Never share your PIN, password, recovery phrase or OTP with someone who contacts you first. Keep operating-system protections enabled; a page that asks you to install remote-access software or disable security checks is a warning sign.
