Use a verified store listing

Follow a link from the service’s official website to Google Play, then verify the developer identity and listing details yourself. Look for a consistent publisher name, support contact, privacy policy and recent updates. Reviews can be manipulated or refer to a different version, so they are not proof of authenticity.

Avoid APK files from file-sharing sites, chat groups, mirror pages or unsolicited adverts. Sideloading can bypass store checks and make it harder to receive safe updates. If an app is unavailable in your country or on your device, do not work around that restriction; use an official browser option if the service provides one.

Review permissions and updates

Android permissions allow an app to access device capabilities or data. A payment app may need network access and perhaps notifications, but any request for contacts, microphone, location, SMS or accessibility access should have a clear purpose. Deny permissions that do not fit the feature and stop if the app refuses to explain a required request.

Keep Android and installed apps updated through official channels. Updates can fix bugs and security issues, but verify the publisher before accepting an update prompt from outside the store. Do not disable device protections because a webpage says it is necessary to complete a payment.

If an app behaves unexpectedly

  • Stop entering credentials and do not approve a payment prompt.
  • Close the app and check your account from an official website or verified support channel.
  • Review recent device permissions and remove an app you cannot verify.
  • Change exposed credentials from a trusted device and contact the wallet or bank if payment access may be affected.
