Verify the payee through the merchant
Use only payment details presented by the merchant inside its official authenticated cashier or a verified invoice. A bank account number copied from a chat, a search result or a social post can be incorrect or fraudulent. If details change unexpectedly, confirm through a separate official route before transferring.
Check the recipient name, account number, bank, currency, amount and any required reference. A missing or incorrect reference may make matching slower. Do not assume that a bank transfer is supported just because the merchant lists a bank logo elsewhere.
Understand the stages
The exact words and timing vary by bank, rail, time of day and recipient. This table is a conceptual guide, not a promise that every transfer follows identical stages. The Central Bank explains the Kenyan National Payments System and its payment-system oversight; your bank remains the source for a particular transfer’s status.

If a transfer is not visible
Save the bank reference, time, amount and payee details. Ask the bank whether the transfer was sent, returned or still processing. If the bank confirms completion, contact the merchant with the reference through its official secure support channel. Avoid sending another transfer until the first one is traced.
Never share online-banking credentials, one-time passwords or full statements with an unknown person. Redact unrelated balances and transactions if a support request legitimately needs a statement excerpt.
